Week Six
So here I am on week six, Coronation blanket! It is not going to be finished by Coronation Day, but I’m getting there! We are travelling to Corfu on that day, and I have got so many things pre holiday to do so not got a lot of time this week to do it! I’m so pleased with it though and the experience of it, a beautifully designed blanket by madebyanita, though my poor arthritic fingers are protesting strongly! They will be glad of the Corfu sunshine and the rest next week though I’ve still packed another crochet project!
I started the leaf round and didn’t like it, I couldn't face doing four sides of the blanket doing the leaves, so opted out of doing the leaf row as so fiddly and did the treble and wave rows in purple yarn and then decided to do another bobble round row in ladybird red and cream bobbles. I've done the bobbles off setting the previous round of bobbles and not lined them up purposely. I’ve stayed with using a 3.5mm hook to stop the blanket from splaying. I’ve joined in the four cream granny corner squares and now on my first row of round six in cream. I'm absolutely loving the warmth and weight of my blanket on my legs now whilst crocheting it. Its going to definitely be my grab CAL blanket in the autumnal and winter months later this year. I have sewn all my emblems on with a needle and cotton thread.
I know some people have been unsure what to do and have used the yarn and just gone under top stitches so not to show all the stitches under the blanket. The Tudor Rose, I made a second one using a 5mm hook to get it a little larger, and centred it in the middle of the blanket. It symbols the British Monarchy and is recognised as the National flower of England. The Daffodil is to represent Wales and the Thistle is for Scotland; and finally the Shamrock is for Northern Ireland. The Orb and Sceptre, I padded out the Orb slightly and I jewelled it with tiny beads as well jewels to the St. Edwards crown. St. Edwards Crown, is the crown used at the moment of coronation. It was made for Charles II in 1661, as a replacement fir the medieval crown that was melted down in 1649.
Hope you are all getting along in what stage you are doing. We are all going to have our very momentous keepsake blanket! Well another blog when finally done! Thank you for reading and keep going everyone!
Im stuck on week 2 I don’t seem to get the rite amount of stitches left on each side. Do you count the 2 treble crochet corner stitches?
